Building Monitor
Human Services, Peel Housing Corporation
Status: (2) Contract Part Time - 12 months
Salary Range: $45,184 - $56,478 per annum ($24.83-31.03/hour)
Work Mode: Onsite
Location: 360 City Centre Dr., Mississauga, ON & 16 John St., Brampton, ON
Hours of work: 25-30 Hours per week

Reporting to the Property Manager, this position plays a key role in monitoring the condition and use of the building for the purpose of maintaining a safe, functional, and healthy working environment.
What you will do in this role:
- Identifies and provides information specific to building activities and findings
- Daily site walk-through - monitoring of mechanical rooms, check site cleanliness, complete boiler/ generator & fire systems checks, underground garages, etc.
- Litter Pick Up and maintenance of compactor room/ waste disposal areas
- First point of contact & monitoring of daily and evening janitorial staff, summer students and security personnel.
- Patrols site on foot and checks for: unsafe conditions; hazards; unlocked doors; security issues; blocked ingress and egress; mechanical problems; unauthorized persons; inspects buildings and grounds using appropriate equipment and protective gear
- Inventory Control - orders and stocks janitorial/ superintendent supplies and common spaces supplies
- Perform minor in-suite and common area repair and maintenance tasks (e.g. minor plumbing, painting, carpentry, scraping glue from a surface, replacing a light bulb or small air filter)
- Support operation of Access Control System according to direction provided by supervisor
- Provide access for contractors according to operational plan and maintenance activities
- Audits parking areas/vehicles
- Monitors CCTV for equipment failure
- Provides access to visitors and community groups for after-hours meetings
- Closely monitors the use of the building; disarms and arms security systems
- May be required to orient new staff
What the role requires:
- At least 1 year of job related experience is required
- General knowledge of building procedures and normal operating conditions, Knowledge Building Code, Ontario Fire Code
- Must show good judgment and common sense, follow directions and directives from supervisors, and follow company policy and guidelines
- Must have a professional appearance and attitude, and be able to interact with the public
- Related experience; knowledge of proper safety standards and emergency procedures
- Must be physically able to perform the tasks required by the position
- Incumbents would typically exchange, provide or seek data or information from a limited number of external contacts that may be using the facility. May also provide service directly to these external contacts.
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to follow established practices and procedures
- Ability to work independently without supervision outside of normal business hours
- Basic communication and computer skills
- Must be able communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
- Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
Nice to Have:
- Basic knowledge of Residential Tenancies Act and Housing Services Act
- Experience working in a social housing setting

Assessment: There will be a practical assessment during the interview stage
Work Mode & Job Location: 360 City Centre Dr., Mississauga, ON & 16 John St., Brampton, ON & Region of Peel Buildings within the Region of Peel as required.
