Construction Technician
Public Works – Operations Support
1 Contract Full-Time Position, Duration 13 months
Salary Range: $71,698 - $89,624 per annum plus comprehensive benefits
Work Mode and Location: onsite at 2 Copper Road, Brampton
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (availability for afterhours work on nights & weekends)
Overview:
Inspect watermains, valves, hydrants, hydrant valves, water service boxes, maintenance holes, water chambers and other various infrastructure assets installed on Connections and Subdivision projects, ensuring that all work is done in accordance with Region of Peel Standards and Specifications. Coordinate water disruption procedures with water operations, Foreperson Construction Inspections and admin team. Assists TA Development with development construction administration.
In this role you will:
- Perform all necessary inspections required for preliminary & final watermain inspection for subdivision, connection/ICI type projects in accordance with Region of Peel Standards and Specifications.
- Prepare reports for development TA or Foreperson Construction Inspections as required documenting inspection services provided.
- Receive and check field drawings to ensure that they are in compliance with Region of Peel Standards and Specifications.
- Inspection of maintenance holes and water chambers for connections projects as required.
- Respond to complaints in un-assumed subdivisions, detailing the deficiency and recommending repairs.
- Prepare reports, detailing deficiencies for the Supervisor and/or Foreperson Construction Inspections.
- Maintain good public relations with contractors, consultants, and the general public.
- Ensure all field equipment is maintained on a regular basis.
- Ensure all reports are accurately completed, electronically filed, and distributed.
- Assist with training on all aspects of Inspection to seasonal staff as required.
- Assist with viewing CCTV videos and preparing reports noting deficiencies or recommendations for approval.
- Book via Water Operations any required valving, tapping, shut off, etc. required and provide scope of work information.
- Ensure residents and businesses are notified of any water interruption and any related 3rd party clients are notified.
- Provide liaison services between homeowners, consultants, and Region of Peel staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What the role requires:
- Work involves performing varying tasks, requiring well-developed technical/professional skills. Typically acquired from a specialized college diploma and/or equivalent experience (Preferably a civil (municipal) background from a post-secondary institution).
- Ability to multitask using well-developed technical/professional skills.
- Must have thorough knowledge of Region of Peel Standards and Specifications and how they are to be applied.
- Solid understanding and experience related to water, wastewater and transportation systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS applications and ability to work with specific applications such as Salesforce and PAL
- Must hold a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License. May be required to use your own vehicle for work travel.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations.
- Minimum of two years job related experience.
