Public Works – Operations Support
Status: 3 Long Term Contract Full-Time Positions, Duration: 13 months
Salary Range: $94,455 to $118,069 per annum (plus benefits)
Hiring Range: $94,455 to $106,262 per annum (plus benefits)
Work Mode and Reporting Location: Onsite at 2 Copper Road, Brampton, 1300 Lakeshore Road East, Mississauga (GE Booth Wastewater Treatment Plant), 2307 Lakeshore Rd W, Mississauga (Clarkson Wastewater Treatment Plant), 920 East Avenue, Mississauga (Arthur P. Kennedy Water Treatment Plant), and various locations within Peel Region
Hours of work: 35 hours per week
The Role:
The Region of Peel is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Inspector – Water/Wastewater Facilities to support the construction and rehabilitation of treatment plants and stations. In this role, you will ensure all work is completed in compliance with Regional standards, specifications, and contract requirements, while maintaining thorough documentation and reporting in alignment with Engineering Technical Services (ETS) guidelines.
You will play a key role in supporting project delivery by providing quantity tracking, assisting with progress payments, and contributing to the mentorship and development of junior inspectors and students.
What You Will Do in This Role:
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and instructions for complex, multidisciplinary projects to ensure alignment with Region of Peel standards and design practicality
- Act as a liaison between project stakeholders including Project Managers, Consulting Engineers, OCWA, Peel Operations, contractors, and other partners
- Participate in internal and site meetings, providing insights on construction quality, scheduling, and site safety
- Monitor contractor QA/QC processes to ensure compliance with contract requirements and standards
- Attend Request for Shutdown (RFS) meetings to verify proper planning, safety measures, and asset isolation procedures (Lockout/Tagout)
- Support commissioning activities, ensuring Automation and Data Solutions (ADS) protocols are met and required documentation is completed
- Track, review, and confirm receipt of project deliverables including field manuals, operations manuals, and as-constructed drawings
- Maintain accurate daily or weekly site records including progress updates, site photos, and contractor communications
- Assist in the preparation of monthly progress payment certificates and final project close-out documentation
- Ensure all construction activities comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Region of Peel safety standards
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff and students
What The Role Requires:
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering (Municipal focus preferred)
- C.Tech designation (OACETT) or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in inspection and/or contract administration within municipal water and wastewater systems
- Strong knowledge of construction practices, contract specifications, and inspection processes for water/wastewater treatment facilities and stations
- Experience working collaboratively with consultants, contractors, and operations teams
- Familiarity with commissioning processes and plant equipment lifecycle considerations is an asset
- Ministry of the Environment (MOE) Water/Wastewater certification is considered an asset
- Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle (with appropriate insurance)
- A satisfactory Level 1 Criminal Record Check obtained directly from a police station (third-party background checks will not be accepted)
