First Aid & CPR Instructor (Part-Time, Contract)
YMCA Calgary
Start Date: Immediately
End Date: January 31st, 2025 (with possibility of annual extension)
Salary: $20.30/hour - $25.37/hour

What qualifications are we looking for?
The successful candidates will have the following;
Canadian Red Cross Intermediate First Aid & CPR Instructor Certification;
Strong administrative and organizational skills;
Duty Manager experience considered an asset;
Teaching experience considered an asset;
Health & Safety background considered an asset;
Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
Three professional references required.
By design the First Aid & CPR Instructor position is a physically demanding position. Candidates should be able to lift and twist with up to 30 lbs. Candidates will be required to travel for their position on a regular basis and will be required to set up and take down tables, chairs, and all required course material and equipment to and from the classroom or teaching space.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
Report directly to the Senior Health and Safety Manager the Canadian Red Cross First Aid Instructor will:
Act as an Association Instructor for the delivery of Intermediate First Aid and CPR-C, to the standard and expectations of our Training Partner the Canadian Red Cross.
Teach CPR-C, Intermediate First Aid and Wilderness First Aid courses.
Teach in the evenings (Mondays & Fridays between 4pm-10pm) and weekends (Saturday between 8am – 6pm)
Commitment to teach up to 7 recertification courses and 1 original course each month. CPR and Intermediate First Aid courses run in person, Original Intermediate First Aid uses CRC blended format (8 online and 8 hours in person). Wilderness First Aid courses run for 40 hours. All courses will have additional set up and take-down requirements.
Need to have the ability to travel and teach, at main training sites: Brookfield Residential YMCA, Shane Homes YMCA and Camp Chief Hector. In addition, there may be a need to travel and teach at other locations including Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot, Quarry Park Child Development Centre, Remington YMCA, Saddletowne YMCA and Shawnessy YMCA.
Uphold a Canadian Red Cross First Aid Instructor certification and all CRC teaching standards.
Support the administration processes for each class, including printing off course rosters, checking participant certifications and completion of online learning, tracking attendance and no-shows, submitting hard and electronic copies to Senior Health and Safety Manager, and maintaining and storing records and test sheets.

Be organized and accountable for being prepared prior to each class and ensuring equipment is properly cleaned and disinfected and appropriately stored after each use.

Have the ability to be reactive and tailor outcomes to groups needs, whilst ensuring Canadian Red Cross standards are upheld.
