Resilient Hearts is a community service organization that aims to create resilient communities where every member feels supported, valued, and equipped to face life's complexities with courage and resilience. Resilient Hearts empowers young adults with developmental disabilities by equipping them with essential skills for independent living in Calgary and surrounding areas through its community access services.
Position Title: Program Facilitator
Position Type: Full-time, Part-time, and Casual
Location: Calgary, Alberta (In-person)
Reports To: CEO (Chief Executive Officer)
Position Summary
Resilient Hearts is seeking program facilitators who will play a crucial role in the program's success by delivering high-quality education and goal-based life skills training, supporting Resilient Hearts' mission, vision, and values. This role involves facilitating classes, teaching life skills, and increasing engagement through fun and interactive activities tailored to the unique needs of participants with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about empowering people with disabilities, possess strong communication skills, and have experience in program facilitation.
Key Responsibilities
· Plan, organize, and facilitate various activities, support groups, and workshops based on the needs and interests of individuals with disabilities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices.
· Collaborate with stakeholders, including participants with disabilities, their families, and other organizations, to identify needs, develop appropriate support strategies, and advocate for participants.
· Develop and deliver program curriculum while monitoring program progress and gathering participant feedback to evaluate outcomes and impact.
· Coordinate with practicum students and volunteers, in collaboration with the management team, to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
· Prepare weekly and monthly summaries, and create and implement service plans and individual support plans.
· Promote programs and services through community engagement efforts, and represent the organization at community events and forums.
· Address any issues or challenges that may arise by following organizational policies and procedures, in collaboration with program management.
· Perform other duties as required, including but not limited to housekeeping and administrative tasks.
Skills and Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Disability Studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
· Proven experience in program facilitation and life skills training, with the ability to work independently.
· Self-starter with superior written, communication, and presentation skills, and a passion for empowering people with disabilities.
· Strong knowledge of developmental disabilities, inclusive language, and available support for individuals with disabilities.
· Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs and abilities.
· Proficiency in using office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace) and familiarity with relevant technology and assistive devices.
· Standard First Aid and crisis prevention training are required.
· Mental Health First Aid, Trauma-informed Care, Brain Story, and ASIST certifications are considered assets.
· Satisfactory vulnerable sector check and intervention record check are required.
· A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle will be considered assets but are not required.
· Preference will be given to individuals who identify as neurodivergent or have lived experience with disability or mental health disorders.
