Instructor, Writing and Editing (Term Part-Time)
Creative Communications and Communication Management
POSITION TYPE: Part-Time, Term Position Available (anticipated September 30, 2024 up to April 30, 2025)
SALARY: $33.62 - $51.43 hourly
*The successful candidate with a Masters or PhD in a related field will receive an Educational Supplement of $2,850 or $5,700 per annum, respectively, pro-rated on an hourly basis.

DUTIES
Reporting to the Chair, Creative Communications and Communication Management, Red River College Polytechnic is looking for a part-time term Instructor for Writer’s Craft courses. Responsibilities include supervision and guidance of students, student evaluation, advising of students and other professional duties related to instruction. Examples of subject areas are research, writing and editing of long-form journalism and written materials. The incumbent is also required to participate in department and program committees.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in Creative Communications, media studies, or equivalent. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience improving on other writers’ work, with structural, stylistic, and copy-editing
- Fluency in Canadian Press Style
- Experience working collaboratively with other writers to develop their writing
- Professional experience producing journalistic writing for an established media entity as a published journalist or writer in English
- Professional experience in editing magazines and/or long-form writing
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate positive outcomes
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Ability to teach on campus and remotely
- Strong presentation skills
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently as well as in small to large group settings
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. A portfolio of published writing is required
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience teaching adults in a professional setting
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
- Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education program or have previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
