DHL Express is currently hiring a GatewayOperations Manager in Hamilton, ON. The Operations Manager provides operational management and support at the Gateway location to ensure efficient and timely pick-up and delivery handling of customer materials and shipments. They also ensure compliance with safety, security, regulatory, and company policies.
How will you contribute to the success of DHL ?
- Responsible for overall efficient and effective Gateway operations, specifically having oversight of import, export, airside, line haul, and parcel sort processes.
- Ensures all material is moved efficiently through the facility, once cleared, and connected to our last mile delivery facilities.
- Ensures personal and team safe operating practices are in place and safety metrics are closely monitored.
- Develops operations plans and budgets based on goals and objectives.
- Works with sales management to promote sales growth by advising on customer activities and achieving specific customer call targets.
- Ensures that facility employee feedback is actioned and followed up on by the front line supervisors.
- Must ensure compliance with import and export regulations, working closely with CBSA, Transport Canada (both air and ground compliance), Airside compliance (FAA, IATA, Transport Canada, etc.). This includes key responsibilities in various audit processes, as well as preventing and actioning deficiencies.
- Manages and responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and developing 5 or more front line supervisors, who manage more than 100 front line staff collectively.
- Coaches and mentors front line supervisors to both develop themselves, and their team members.
- Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and performance management processes.
Do you have what it takes ?
- Complete understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in function or business area.
- Good understanding of working collaboratively in a unionized work environment.
- An advanced understanding of specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
- Knows and effectively uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures relative to quality and productivity improvements, training, budgeting and cost control, and progressive techniques in area of specialization.
- Generally understands basic supervisory approaches for work direction, motivation, and disciplinary action.
- Typically requires BS/BA and 3 years’ experience in related field, including at least one year of supervisory experience.
- Professional certification required in some areas.
