Instructor, Gas Fitting (Term Full-Time)
Piping Trades
POSITION TYPE: 2 Full-Time, Term Position Available (anticipated October 1, 2024 up to March 31, 2025)
SALARY: $63,375 - $96,946 per annum*
*The successful candidate with a Masters or PhD in a related field will receive an Educational Supplement of $2,850 or $5,700 per annum, respectively, pro-rated on an hourly basis.

DUTIES
Reporting to the Chair of the Piping Trades department, the Instructor is required to deliver both the theoretical and practical aspects of Gas fitting to apprentices and pre-employment students in the Gasfitter and related Construction trades programs. Topics covered will include, but are not limited to, trade safety, tools and equipment, gas piping, gas code, system design, installation, and commissioning. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervision and guidance of students, student evaluation, advising of students, maintenance of student records and other professional duties related to instruction including development and modification of curriculum, perform lab and classroom facility design and setup, maintain lab and classroom equipment and perform related administrative responsibilities as required. The incumbent is also required to participate in department and College committees and assist in student orientation and graduation activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Inter-Provincial Journeyperson certificate in Gasfitter A or B
- Significant related industry experience in commercial and/or residential aspects of the trade
- Experience with controls for gasfitting-related equipment
- Experience using a variety of hand tools and machines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate positive outcomes
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in small to large group settings
- Ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate positive outcomes
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to teach on campus and remotely
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Inter-Provincial journeyperson certification in Plumbing, Refrigeration or Steam Fitting
- Certificate in Teaching for Learning or Adult Education
- Post-secondary instructional experience
- Experience developing curriculum and instructing at a post-secondary level network of contacts within the industry
- A network of contacts within the industry
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
- This position may be required to work throughout the academic year including the summer months
- Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education program or have previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
- May be required to work at various RRC Polytech campuses
