Instructor, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Term, Full-Time)
Mechanical Trades
POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Term Position Available (anticipated October 1, 2024 up to March 31, 2025)
SALARY: $63,375 - $96,946 per annum*
*The successful candidate with a Masters or PhD in a related field will receive an Educational Supplement of $2,850 or $5,700 per annum, respectively, pro-rated on an hourly basis.

DUTIES
Reporting to the Chair of the Mechanical Trades department, the instructor is required to deliver both the theoretical and practical aspects of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning to apprentices and pre-employment students in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician program, including instruction into related trades. Topics covered will include, but are not limited to: trade safety, tools and equipment, gas fitting, electrical theory, refrigeration system design, installation and commissioning, blueprint reading and code. Duties include, but are not limited to: development, delivery and modification of curriculum, conducting student assessment and counseling, performing lab and classroom facility design and setup, maintaining lab and classroom equipment and performing related administrative responsibilities as required. The incumbent is also required to participate in department and College committees and assist in student orientation and graduation activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid inter-provincial journeyperson's certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
- Valid inter-provincial journeyperson's certificate in Domestic Gasfitter B
- Significant related industry experience in the commercial and / or residential aspects of the trade
- Experience using a variety of hand tools and machines, related to the trade
- Experience reading blueprints
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate positive outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to teach on campus and remotely
- Proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently as well as in small to large group settings
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- A valid journeyperson's Gasfitter A certificate
- Experience developing curriculum and instructing at a post-secondary level
- Certificate in Teaching for Learning or Adult Education
- A network of contacts within industry
- Experience developing and instructing distance-delivered courses including online
- Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver blended (synchronous and asynchronous) instruction
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
- This position may be required to work throughout the academic year including the summer months
- Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education program or have previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
- May be required to work at various RRC Polytech campuses
