Mechanic
Public Works – Operations Support
Regular Full-Time
Hourly Rate: $36.83/hour to $38.61/hour (Plus an additional $4.00 hourly premium)
Hours of Work: 40 hours of work per week (9:00 am to 6:00 pm)
Location: 2941 King Street, Caledon
Work Mode: Onsite

The role:
Reporting to the Foreperson Fleet Services you will perform repairs and maintenance of regional cars, dump trucks, snow clearing and construction equipment, and small engines and ambulances.
What you will do in this role:
- Plan and schedule duties according to work priorities and requirements as directed.
- Diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and annual safety inspections as required.
- Ensure work is performed safely, efficiently within the time allotted and in accordance with legislated standards.
- Install and repair specialized vehicle accessories and safety equipment.
- Order and receive replacement or repair parts as directed and keep stock area in neat and tidy condition.
- Supply and use own hand tools to carry out maintenance and repair duties.
- Accurately complete forms, reports and input/retrieve information into Fleet Management System.
- Execute duties in a tactful manner and maintain a neat appearance to portray a positive image of the Region of Peel.
- Will be required to perform emergency roadside repairs.
- Attend training courses as required.
What the role requires:
- Must hold a current Province of Ontario Motor Vehicle License 310T and 310S preferably with Propane Fuel Tech (P) via TSSA.
- Must hold Ontario Vehicle Operator’s Permit Class “G” in good standing.
- Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Must be able to read, write and understand English.
- Must be able to complete various work forms and prepare simple written reports.
- Experience, preferably in Fleet Maintenance environment dealing with a variety of light and heavy vehicles and up to date on automotive electronics.
- Experience with diagnostic equipment, ie: scanners, digital meters, tire balancers, brake lathes, and AC filling and testing equipment.
Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are currently in the bargaining unit
