Health Planning Facilitator
Health Services/Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention
Status: Regular Full Time
Salary Range: $89,469 $111,834 per annum, plus comprehensive benefits
Work mode: Hybrid* - on-site work based on operational needs
Location: 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ON
Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Core public health functions are assessment and surveillance, health promotion and healthy policy development, health protection, disease prevention and emergency management.
What you will do in this role:
- Provide planning expertise to support the Built Environment team integrate evidence-informed health considerations into planning policy, development practices and other land-use and infrastructure development processes.
- Lead aspects of the Region’s Healthy Development Assessment (HDA) program; such as acting as the program spokesperson, support program implementation, program monitoring as well as opportunities for continuous quality improvement and increased impact.
- Build relationships with area municipal staff and other stakeholders to identify and negotiate opportunities to apply elements of healthy development into policies, plans, guidelines and standards.
- Represent Public Health as a stakeholder in the one window Regional review process of local Official Plans and other planning processes.
- Act as a resource across public health to identify project and policy opportunities and maintaining cross-divisional and cross-departmental partnerships.
- Provide research and analysis support to the Built Environment team on emerging planning and development practices, Provincial legislation and relevant planning policies for healthy environments.
- Lead, inform, negotiate and consult with area municipalities, developers, planning consultants, property owners, legal counsel, the public and other agencies in the review and commenting on complex planning matters.
- Provides factual evidence at OLT hearings and serve as expert witness in administrative tribunals as required.
- Negotiate and promote the built environment agenda in accordance with the Region’s Strategic Plan and Peel Public Health’s Strategic Plan.
What the role requires:
- Masters or Honours Degree in Planning or a related field plus expert knowledge and further specialization in the planning field.
- Recognized as a Registered Professional Planner and full membership in OPPI/CIP.
- Minimum of three years of related development experience.
- Expert knowledge and ability to interpret and advise on healthy and sustainable land-use and transportation practices, the local municipal Official Plans across Peel, the, Provincial Policy Statement, the Ontario Planning Act and other legislation affecting Regional, community and land use planning policy interests.
- Combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong project management, leadership and facilitation skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated experience in policy analysis, report writing, and commenting on development applications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including making presentations to Regional Council, staff, departmental leadership or the public.
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting agendas and persuade others in order to meet program, project and event objectives.
- Experience in evaluating and integrating analyses that come from multiple sources in order to provide recommendations.

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ON worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.
It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
