Project Manager, Transportation Design and Construction
Public Works - Transportation
Contract Full-Time; 24 Months
Salary Range: $100,172 to $125,213 per annum
Work mode: Hybrid (Minimum 1 day onsite weekly, which may increase based on operational requirements)
Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton, ON
Hours of work: 35 hours per week

The Transportation team constructs, operates, plans and maintains a multi-modal network of assets such as roadways, bridges, sidewalks and multi-use trails, stormwater infrastructure, street-lighting, traffic signals, noise and retaining walls, signs, safety barriers and street trees.

Reports to: Program Manager, Roads-Design and Construction
What you will do in this role:
- Undertake detailed design in-house utilizing MicroStation CAD platform and/or review, comment and approve Consultant led detailed designs, tender documents, and associated submissions.
- Progress the project work through all project phases. (Initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and close-out)
- Manage the selection and procurement process and assessment of new technologies and/or methodologies.
- Prepares requests for proposals including defining the scope of work and terms of reference.
- Develop tender documents, award, and execute contracts.
- Control project budgets, cashflows, schedules, monitoring and reporting.
- Liaise with other departments, divisions and sections within the Region, as well as with Regional Councillors, external agencies and municipalities (such as MTO, Metrolinx, Brampton Transit, and MiWay), and the public.
- Negotiate and secure approval from environmental agencies including CVC, TRCA, NEC, DFO, MECP.
- Lead and guide the inspection and consultant team in administering contract terms effectively.
- Negotiate project changes in scope and related extras to minimize Peel’s financial risk while maintaining the quality and schedule of the project.
- Lead project teams which are also resourced with full time on-site inspectors.
- Provide budget estimates and project scheduling for recommended infrastructure requirements in the Roads Capital Budget and prepares Business Cases for additional funding requests.
- Lead Value Engineering assignments when peer review is required to ensure constructability and value.
- Ensure capital projects are well thought through to ensure risk is minimized to existing infrastructure.
- Attend onsite meetings with other Regional staff, as required, to advise on design/construction challenges.
- Coordinate utility relocations, including cost sharing arrangements.
- Participate in the development of the Transportation Project Procedures Manual (TPPM) and ensure projects are monitored and completed using this methodology.
- Identify and initiate new business requirements to improve current practices and better assess infrastructure needs.
- Continue to be updated on emerging technologies and changing regulations.
- Other Project Management duties as assigned.
What we require:
- Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) or CET plus a minimum of 5 years directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Multi-disciplined knowledge and experience in the design, construction of roadways, sidewalks, multi-use paths, stormwater infrastructure, retaining/noise walls and structures.
- Knowledge of road design practices and standards, related codes, regulations, safety acts, tendering/contract process, value engineering and contract administration.
- Demonstrated experience in Contract Administration for Construction Projects. Must be proficient in MicroStation CAD platform.
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong negotiating, planning, scheduling and project management skills to coordinate multiple budgets, vendors and contractors to get the work done smoothly, on time and on budget.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills along with strong public relations skills.
- Ability to work independently and make effective decisions.
- Strong organizational and effective time management skills.
- Demonstrated financial skills to prepare cost estimates, cashflows and to control budgets and expenditures for capital works projects.

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work remotely and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs, at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton and other water/wastewater worksites. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.
