What qualifications are we looking for?
At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, experiences, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:
· Strong leadership skills with a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in marketing operations, digital marketing or related roles.
· Demonstrated experience developing and implementing digital marketing plans for large and complex organizations along with:
· a solid understanding of communications best practices.
· audience engagement methods; and
· storytelling with expert skills in writing, editing, and advising on design.
· Proven experience managing and optimizing digital marketing channels, including websites, email marketing, social media, and paid campaigns.
· Hands-on experience defining and measuring campaign performance, leads, and ROI.
· Experience with Constant Contact or similar email marketing platforms, including building automated workflows, managing lists, and optimizing engagement campaigns designed to drive acquisition and retention rates.
· Working knowledge of Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for monitoring website traffic, and user behavior, and assessing campaign effectiveness.
· Strong understanding of SEO best practices, user experience optimization, and web analytics to drive digital engagement.
· Basic understanding of HTML and CSS and/or experience in Drupal, WordPress, or other CMS platforms, with the ability to make basic updates and improvements to enhance website performance and user experience.
· Understanding of marketing funnel dynamics and experience in developing strategies to move leads through awareness to conversion.
· Demonstrated experience developing and implementing digital marketing plans for large organizations.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
· Proactive work ethic and the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
· Comfort leading and executing projects while working independently, and as part of a team.
· Comfort supporting emergency and/or crisis communications response.
· Experience and interest in health, fitness and/or recreation is preferred.
· Exposure to not-for-profit and charitable organizations is valuable.
· Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
· At least three professional references.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
The Web and Digital Communications Lead collaborates closely with other members of the Community Engagement team to enable business goals and activate communications and marketing objectives. This role will also collaborate with internal business partners (ie. Experience team, IT, and others) to drive seamless execution of marketing and communications initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
· Own and optimize the website for user experience, conversions, accessibility, and usability, ensuring alignment with brand standards.
· Implement SEO best practices to drive YMCA Calgary memberships and programs and elevate the brand as a trusted charity.
· Lead the integration and optimization of all marketing channels (website, email, social media, etc.) to ensure they are working effectively together.
· Collaborate with IT and Experience teams to enhance the YMCA digital experience across all our digital channels.
· Develop and optimize automated email workflows to help increase customer engagement, cross-selling, and advocacy opportunities.
· Collaborate with internal campaign owners and content creators to share our stories widely, making sure our marketing efforts reach the right audiences and lead to meaningful results.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain a revenue lifecycle model to analyze leads and improve the marketing pipeline.
· Build and report on return on investment (ROI) metrics to assess and improve marketing campaign effectiveness.
· Serve as the subject matter expert for marketing tools, supporting and training internal teams.
· Manage communication platforms, work with vendors, and provide training to ensure effective usage.
· Support our on-call rotation for media relations and crisis communications to protect YMCA Calgary’s brand reputation.
· As a member of the Community Engagement team, assist and attend events as needed.
