Who we are: In Family Health, our work focuses on healthy growth and development in the early years. We design and deliver programs and services that support children and families to build a strong foundation for lifelong health and wellbeing. We aim to reduce disparities and improve the health status of the population.
What you will do in this role:
The (FH) advisor supports the development of strategies and plans for integrating Family Health programming and initiatives into Health Services, Corporate Services and the broader early years community and sector. Initiatives include:
- Evidence informed program planning and evaluation
- Integrated operational planning and performance management
- Provides high quality professional advice, support, consultative guidance, and services to internal and external stakeholders in areas of public health, research utilization, policy writing and early child development
- Provides advice, writing, briefing, critical analysis and coordinates support to the Divisional management team
- Represents the Director on committees and at other meetings with both internal and external stakeholders, Commissioners, Directors and Councillors as directed
- Provides in-depth analysis to assess risks associated with strategic and operational plans
- Negotiates implementation of recommendations across the Division / Department and develops measures to evaluate the success of new initiatives
- Provides research, public health and early child development expertise on internal and external committees
- Develops and submits Ministry reports in collaboration with program staff and Public Health Leadership Team
- Leads key projects using project management principles and processes
- Writes Council Reports, briefings and other reports as directed
What the role requires:
- Completed Masters degree in a health, education or related discipline with expert public health knowledge and further specialization in early years science
- Combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience within a provincial or municipal government environment with an understanding of the political and administrative culture
- Minimum of 5 years of Public Health or related job experience
- Expert knowledge and strong understanding of comprehensive health promotion, critical analysis, evidence-informed decision-making, integrated planning, policy development and policy writing
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to think conceptually and strategically in order to support strategic and operational initiatives
- Leadership skills to influence others to meet project and departmental objectives
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
- Excellent communication skills to effectively negotiate, persuade, advocate and influence change
- Superior written and verbal communication skills and public speaking skills
- Polished change management skills to create, implement and evaluate impactful changes while navigating any resistance
- Proven ability to synthesize, evaluate, and integrate analysis of information from multiple sources
- Project management skills to oversee implementation / completion of plans, as well as policy development skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga,ON worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.
It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario.
