Analyst, Research and Policy
Health Services - Public Health
Status: Contract Full Time, Duration: Up to 12 Months
Salary Range: $89,469 - $111,834 per annum

Hours of work: 35 hours per week
The Analyst, Research and Policy on the Public Health Practice team at Peel Public Health will primarily focus on developing and maintaining research review processes methods and tools. The Analyst will use their expertise in critical appraisal, knowledge synthesis and action-oriented communication techniques to provide guidance on research review projects, use strong facilitation and collaboration skills to support linkage and exchange across public health, and help to build capacity across the department. They may conduct research reviews, as well as provide support to others on all steps in the process. The Analyst will also support knowledge management projects, including the development and maintenance of SharePoint publishing sites.
What you will do in this role:
Public Health Sciences: Key Knowledge and Critical Thinking
- Monitors, identifies, analyzes and provides recommendations on trends, risks and opportunities
- Applies advanced knowledge of public health and/or technical knowledge regarding population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology and evidence-informed decision making
Assessment and Analysis
- Synthesizes research evidence and participates in research projects
- Interprets and analyzes complex information to provide strategic recommendations that will guide policy and programming decisions
Partnerships, Collaboration and Advocacy
- Develops and maintains cooperative, collaborative and strategic relationships with internal and external partners
- Collaborates with a wide variety of experts, corporate staff and federal, provincial and regional colleagues
Diversity and Inclusiveness
- Ensures that issues of diversity, ethnicity, language and culture are reflected in research and policy analyses
Communication
- Prepares complex and specialized documentation, reports and statistical analyses
- Synthesizes complex information into a wide range of written and visual communication products such as reviews of research evidence, briefing documents, policy positions and presentations
Leadership
- Acts as a key representative for specific programs, projects and services
- Transfers or seeks to transfer public health knowledge and skills
- Acts as project manager, committee chair or consultant for divisional or departmental projects
- Acts as a lead in research evidence review processes
What the role requires:
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Science, Policy, Planning, Health Administration, Epidemiology, Nursing, Nutrition or related degree
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience in public health setting
- Experience leading knowledge synthesis/research review projects including development of search strategies, relevance assessment, critical appraisal and synthesis of research evidence
- Working knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods or strong knowledge in qualitative and quantitative research methods and analytical skills
- Combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills/Abilities:
- Experienced in knowledge translation/knowledge mobilization, and informing policy development
- Demonstrated ability to apply advanced knowledge of public health and/or technical knowledge including population health, social determinants of health, assessment of research evidence, epidemiology and applicable legislation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information for a variety of audiences
- Strong facilitation, project management, partnership/collaboration, planning, problem-solving and organizational skills
- Competence in using Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook programs, SharePoint, and reference management software
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ON worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.
It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario.
