Registered Dental Hygienist, Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) program

Status: Contract Full Time, 12 months
Salary Range: $76,054 to $96,068 per annum + comprehensive benefits

Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga & various travel through out Peel Region
Hours of work: 35 hours per week
Who we are: The Oral Health Section conducts oral health screening in elementary schools and community clinics. The Registered Dental Hygienist will provide dental hygiene preventive care (dental sealants, topical fluoride applications and teeth scaling) for children aged 0-17 in portable, mobile and fixed clinics in locations throughout the Region of Peel. As an RDH, you will support for clients to access the Healthy Smiles Ontario program which provides free dental care through government funding to those who are eligible. In addition to your clinic practice, you may be required to utilize your knowledge and expertise to participate in health promotion and projects related to oral health programming.
What you will do in this role:
- Conduct dental screening and document existing dental conditions requiring treatment and conduct follow-up case management as required, in accordance with the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS). Follow-up involves written, face to face and telephone communications with parents and/or guardian
- Provide preventive treatment in portable, mobile, fixed clinics and schools. Treatment includes, but is not limited to: topical fluoride application, sealant placement, scaling and client education
- Maintain Dental Hygiene standards of practice, with attention to dental reprocessing procedures
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external parties
- Follow guidelines provided by Peel Region, Ministry of Health, and other regulatory bodies
- Other duties as assigned
What the role requires:
- Successful completion of a diploma in dental hygiene from a recognized accredited educational institute
- Registered in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario
- Minimum of the equivalent of three (3) full-time years clinical dental hygiene experience
- Current knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive dental hygiene services
- Possess a valid ‘G’ driver’s license with own transportation and the ability to travel to various regional locations on a day-to-day basis
- Ability to upgrade drivers' licence to class D in order to operate/drive a 12 metres long dental mobile bus
- Availability for occasional weekend and evening work
- Current CPR certification (level C)
- Ability to lift up to 10-15 kg (22-33 lbs)
Skills/Abilities:
- Intermediate computer skills utilizing MS Office (Outlook, Power Point, Word and Excel)
- Understanding of importance of maintaining client confidentiality
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
Nice to have:
- Public Health experience, as well as experience working with children
- Working knowledge of dental software including OHISS (Oral Health Information Support System)
- Knowledge of the Collaborative Health Record (CHR)
- Current possession of Class C or D drivers’ licence or experience operating a dental mobile bus
- Multilingualism
- A university degree in a relevant field

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time. Please note travel through out Peel Region is required.
