Summary of responsibilities:
The Senior Advisor, Internal Controls is responsible for leading CATSA’s Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) program. This entails annually updating the program’s methodology, performing a risk assessment, updating flowcharts and test plans to reflect changes in controls throughout the year, performing control testing, and liaising with external stakeholders. The Senior Advisor, Internal Controls is also responsible for drafting various briefing notes, reports and presentations for the Senior Management Committee and the Audit Committee. The Senior Advisor, Internal Controls stays up to date on emerging trends and best practices and advises the General Manager on issues relating to internal controls, fraud prevention, and other projects, as required. The Senior Advisor, Internal Controls leads specialized projects such as Government Mandated Assessments (OAG Special Examination, OAG Performance Audits, etc.), Fraud Risk Assessment, External Assessments, and other ad hoc projects that benefit from leveraging internal controls expertise. Lastly, the Senior Advisor, Internal Controls provides support to the Advisor, Internal Controls in facilitating CATSA’s outsourced Internal Audit function, and other functions as required. The Senior Advisor, Internal Controls performs all other duties and responsibilities related to the position as required.
What you need to succeed
To qualify for the position, you must have:
• Graduation from a recognized college or university with a specialization in accounting, finance, commerce, business administration or another speciality relevant to the duties of the position.
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
• A minimum of five (5) years of senior financial and/or accounting and/or auditing experience.
• Knowledge of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR).
• Experience drafting reports and delivering advice (including formal presentations) to Senior Management on a variety of topics related to financial reporting, internal controls and audit.

• Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
• Understanding of how the federal government works and the role of central agencies, as well as knowledge of sound reporting and approval processes.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, directives, guidelines (e.g., the Financial Administration Act), and Treasury Board policies/principles relevant to Crown Corporations.
• Knowledge of CATSA’s mandate and priorities, as well as an awareness of relevant legislation impacting CATSA.
