We are currently hiring a Senior Tax Accountant based in our Head Office.
Please note that this is a hybrid role based out of our Burnaby, BC office. Applicants who are not located within commuting distance of our Head Office or are not looking to relocate to the Greater Vancouver/Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley region will not be considered.
As a Senior Tax Accountant, you’ll play a key role in managing the tax and financial reporting requirements for BCAA and its group of companies.This role is ideal for a tax professional looking to broaden their scope by taking on a blend of tax, financial reporting, and accounting responsibilities in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
You’llbe responsible for preparing and reviewing income and indirect tax returns, managing regulatory filings, supporting audits, and maintaining compliance with Canadian tax legislation. This role ensures the integrity and accuracy of tax positions, financial disclosures, and internal controls while collaborating with departments across the organization, including Corporate Accounting, Treasury, and Internal Audit.
In addition to compliance and reporting, you’ll drive improvements in processes and support the implementation of new accounting standards where applicable. You’ll also prepare financial statement packages, contribute to external audit readiness, and help assess and mitigate risk across financial operations. What you’ll do:
- Maintain compliance with Canadian tax legislation, including preparation of income and indirect tax returns, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare regulatory filings and responses to requests from government agencies (e.g., Statistics Canada).
- Review tax assessments, document tax positions, and support the business on income and indirect sales tax matters.
- Support audits and respond to tax authority inquiries, working with internal teams and external advisors as needed.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and associated disclosures, including general ledger reconciliations and subsystem reconciliations.
- Drive continuous improvements to optimize the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting.
- Evaluate and implement new accounting policies aligned with ASPE and IFRS as needed.
- Lead the preparation of annual audit working paper packages and support the external audit process.
- Identify and mitigate control risks in partnership with Corporate Accounting, Treasury, and Internal Audit teams.
- Prepare treasury-related reports and annual returns tied to investment portfolios, pensions, and related filings.
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Commerce with a concentration in Finance or Accounting.
- Completion of CPA designation and CPA In-Depth Tax Program.
- 4+ years of experience in tax, accounting, or audit roles (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Up-to-date knowledge of Canadian tax laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Experience working in a high-volume, multi-entity environment with multiple accounting standards.
- Strong technical accounting skills, with knowledge of ASPE and IFRS.
- Experience with financial reporting systems and ERP tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, investigative, and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to read and interpret tax bulletins, professional journals, and regulatory documentation.
- Strong planning and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- A passion for coaching, mentoring, and enhancing team capabilities.
- Experience preparing Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SRED) submissions is an asset.

The salary range for this position is $88,830.00 to $110,662.44 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 9%, with the opportunity to earn up to 15%.
