JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Resource Integration, the Resource Integration Specialist Engineer will be responsible for:
* Ensuring traditional and non-traditional resources (such as utility-scale battery, demand response and conservation/efficiency measures) are integrated in long-term system planning and grid requirements are identified and secured.
* Nominating adequate Network Integration Transmission Services (NITS) pursuant to the Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT) to meet customer load requirements.
* Coordinating the integration of transmission-related planning and reliability considerations in the development of BC Hydro’s integrated resource plans.
* Developing and maintaining the Generation Dispatch in Transmission Planning guideline to ensure the transmission system is adequate to reliably deliver resources to serve load. Providing guidance on the application of the planning guideline to transmission projects.
* Developing Fort Nelson long term resource plan to meet future demand considering several contingency resource and load scenarios.
* Developing and maintaining the reference prices for the transmission and distribution systems.
* Contributing to regulatory activities including the Integrated Resource Plan, revenue requirement filings and CPCN applications.
* Representing BC Hydro in technical committees of WECC and other regional organizations as required.
* Identifying, fostering and managing ongoing internal and external relationships to support the team’s core functions and ensure technical considerations and business processes are integrated across key business units.
* Prioritizing technical & process improvements in support of BC Hydro’s business objectives.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
* Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC), or another Canadian Regulatory body.
* A minimum of 10 years of progressive and comprehensive engineering experience, with a primary focus on power system planning and operations (generation, transmission, distribution).
* A minimum of 4 years leading and coordinating multi-discipline medium to large projects, preferably on projects similar in nature to BC Hydro in terms of size, complexity, and stakeholders.
* Knowledge of power system modelling concepts including transmission and distribution power flows and generation resource adequacy. Experience with PSSE, PowerWorld, CYME, MARS is an asset.
* Data Analysis and/or data management experience is considered an asset.
* Knowledge of project management principles
* Good understanding of engineering economics
* Knowledge of smart grid is an asset, for example, Battery Management Systems, Energy Storage Management Systems, EMS-DMS integration, rates/demand response/distribution generation/electrical vehicle charging management systems and non-wires alternatives.
* Excellent leadership and communication, negotiation and relationship building skills.
* Proven ability to think independently, strategically, and laterally, in order to highlight improvement opportunities, and drive change.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to adjust the communication style for different internal and external audiences from asset planners and project managers to the Executive Team and the Board of Directors.
* Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.
IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
