Research Technologist (Term)

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Term Position Available (anticipated June 6, 2024 up to March 31, 2028)
SALARY: $55,494 - $76,003 per annum
POSITION LOCATION: Notre Dame Campus (Winnipeg, MB)

DUTIES
The position develops and implements applied research projects for the RRC Technology Access Centre for Aerospace and Manufacturing. The position will support applied research activities in 3D modeling, mechanical design, process development and additive manufacturing. Specific duties will include developing technical drawings, computer models, process parameters, specifications, tools and fixtures. Additionally, the successful candidate will provide hands-on support for prototyping and product development, and for interfacing a variety of mechanical systems with other machines. The candidate will be required to work as part of multidisciplinary project teams to develop solutions for industrial clients and prepare technical reports for both internal and industrial client projects. This position will support technology workshops, knowledge dissemination, and industry outreach activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience with design, analysis, and prototyping of mechanical systems and components
- Experience with process parameter optimization for metal additive manufacturing
- Experience working in the aerospace or manufacturing industry
- Experience in project management
- Familiar with engineering materials and applications
- Familiar with mechanical testing and materials characterization of engineering materials
- Demonstrated experience in the design and fabrication of machines, tools, and fixtures
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Inventor, Solidworks, or similar programs
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated experience with 3D printing
