About The CSIL Program

Choice in Supports for Independent Living (CSIL) is a program that provides an alternative way for people with disabilities in BC to receive home support services. Aimed at fostering independence, the program channels funding from health authorities to consumers with disabilities, who then hire and direct their own in-home care workers. CSIL allows individuals to control who provides their care, when it is given, and how tasks are performed.

Purpose Of The Role

We're looking for a skilled community organizer to help people with disabilities across British Columbia take collective action on an issue that directly affects their daily lives.

CSIL funds people with disabilities to hire and manage their own in-home support workers, giving them real control over their care. The issue is that Health Authorities do not fund CSIL employers at an adequate hourly rate.

This role organizes CSIL members across BC to make a difference in the lives of others using the program. You'll help build a network of local advocacy groups across BC, whose members will lobby and meet with their local MLAs to make the case for increased funding rates for the CSIL program.

What You'll Be Doing

Identify and connect with CSIL consumers across BC who are willing to participate in local advocacy groups.
Organize and mentor those groups you develop; handling scheduling, coordination, and early facilitation to get them up and running.
Coach and prepare members to feel confident going into MLA meetings. Help them understand the goals, strategy, and why advocacy for more funding matters. Coach members on what to ask for, and how to present their case effectively.
Create practical advocacy materials including email templates, talking points, briefing sheets, and meeting scripts.
Lead or co-lead meetings and presentations to MLAs when and where it makes sense.
Ensure the campaign feels cohesive and aligned Province-wide.
Empower these groups to be self-sufficient and self-organized at the end of the 6 month contract period.

Who We're Looking For

You are genuinely good at rallying people around a shared cause and helping them take action.
You have some community organizing or grassroots advocacy experience.
You have a natural ability to bring people together, build trust, and keep a group motivated.
You have experience mentoring or guiding groups through unfamiliar processes.
You are comfortable facilitating small meetings and helping participants feel heard and prepared.
You have clear communication skills in conversation and in writing.
You have strong organizational follow-through to manage multiple small groups and their projects.
You are familiar with BC's political landscape or MLA engagement is a plus, not a requirement.
