Community Engagement Student (Full Time, Contract)
YMCA Calgary (combination of in branch and remote work)
Start Date: Immediately
End Date: December 31st, 2025
Salary: $34,112.00 - $41,919.00/year (will be prorated based on a 8 month contract)

What qualifications are we looking for?
At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
· Post-secondary courses in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, or a similar field.
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with confidence and passion to share knowledge.
· Digital competency including the ability to quickly learn and navigate new tools and systems.
· Eye for design and ability to create graphics that follow brand guidelines. Experience in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite considered an asset.
· Creative thinking, curiosity, and an openness to abstract ideas.
· Drive to take initiative, accomplish goals, develop new skills, and grow.
· The ability to handle multiple competing priorities while maintaining professionalism.
· YMCA Calgary values of respect, honesty, responsibility, and caring.
· Volunteer experience.
· Relationships with mentors in your field of study.
· Experience and interest in health, fitness and/or recreation is preferred.
· Ability and willingness to travel between YMCA locations branches when needed to provide in person support to branches.
· Evidence of a clear Police Information Check.
· At least three academic and personal references.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
Duties and Responsibilities include:
· Support Communications Specialists in developing and executing marketing & communications plans to drive revenue growth, donations, and brand awareness.
· Support the planning, organization and execution of community engagement events and activations.
· Assist Digital Communications Specialist in moving website to a new layout builder, ensuring all pages are aligned with new format, copy is optimized, and links are working.
· Create and optimize content across print and digital mediums, ensuring brand consistency and driving audience engagement.
· Write for a variety of channels and mediums, ensuring copy is engaging and aligned with YMCA Calgary’s voice and tone.
· Create graphics for digital and print mediums, maintain brand templates and provide design assistance and direction to branches aligned with brand guidelines.
· Contribute to and maintain communication platforms including internal intranet site, social media, and in-branch digital signage.
· Seek new and engaging ways to elevate YMCA Calgary across social media channels.
· Support the team in daily activities and assigned projects as needed.
· Support with the coordination of Community Engagement events, which will involve some evening or weekend work.
