The Applications Specialist plays a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing the enterprise applications that are vital to VHA Home HealthCare operations. This position will collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to support daily operations, develop and implement comprehensive testing plans for new enhancements, updates, cumulative fixes and service feature packs. Attention to detail is crucial in this role. The Applications Specialist must possess a solid understanding of the business workflows used by end-users in home healthcare settings and be capable of translating these requirements into development specifications and testing scenarios. Additionally, this position requires close collaboration with application vendors to ensure the timely and thorough resolution of identified issues. The Applications Specialist will provide Level 2 support (and Level 1 support as needed), addressing escalations from the VHA’s service desk team and responding to direct inquiries from end-users.
This is a Temporary Full-Time role with a contract ending on January 2027.
Key Areas of Accountability:
- Assumes responsibility for Quality Assurance by working with application releases and developing and implementing testing plans to comprehensively test new enhancements/updates/service packs
- Resolves any escalations from our service desk and answering direct inquiries from end users
- Ensures the accuracy and integrity of data within enterprise applications
- Monitor data flow and perform regular audits
- Develop understanding of business workflow and translate to technical requirements
- Maintain privacy and security of all confidential/Sensitive data
- Engage with various departments to ensure the seamless integration of applications with existing systems and databases
- Develop comprehensive manuals and training materials on change management for end-users
- Identify opportunities for system improvement and oversee the implementation of application upgrades
Key skills, experience and behaviors required for this position:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other IT related areas is preferred
- A Minimum of 3 years of experience in providing end-user support with IT applications is required
- Experience with completing quality assurance (QA) testing is required
- Experience in a health care environment is preferred
- Proficiency in application support and system integration
- Knowledge of database management, and applications software development
- Be able to comply with PHIPA regulations to ensure that Patient Health Information (PHI) confidentiality is always maintained
- Attention to detail and a drive to lead testing, and ensure that new features, upgrades, and enhancements are tested thoroughly to minimize impacts to the front line is required
