The Baking Supervisor is responsible for the production of all pastries, desserts, and baked goods, often in a high volume, while leading and coaching the baking team. The role of the Baking Supervisor at the Stratford Festival is to provide our Guests, Members, Staff and Company with an excellent dining experience while supporting the broader culinary team. This position reports to the Executive Chef and takes direction from the Associate Director, Food & Beverage or other Café & Catering Managers.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership
- Supervise, coach and delegate duties to Bakers and other culinary team members
- Assist in menu development in collaboration with Executive and Sous Chefs
- Coordinate with kitchen staff and front-of-house as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members regarding inventory, workflow, or customer requests
- Shift Management
- Monitor catering clipboards; being aware of upcoming events
- Monitor stock levels of ingredients and supplies, report shortages to supervisor.
- Rotate ingredients and baked items to minimize waste and maintain freshness.
- Organize storage areas and assist with inventory counting as needed
- Receive, inspect, and store deliveries in accordance with food safety standards.
- Clean and maintain equipment regularly, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment, cleaning the kitchen throughout the shift, and replenishing stock as necessary.
- Daily Activities
- Prepare and bake a variety of baked goods.
- Transport food to various locations, as required.
- Follow recipes and formulas accurately for consistency and quality.
- Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes using mixers, blenders, heat sources, and other bakery equipment.
- Shape, roll, and cut dough to prepare for baking.
- Operate bakery equipment such as ovens, mixers, induction stoves, and scales.
- Inspect finished products for uniformity, texture, and appearance.
- Ensure products are labeled and displayed attractively, where applicable.
- General
- Follow all organizational and governmental health/safety standards at all times
- Maintain a clean and tidy appearance at all times, adhering to established uniform standards
- Adhere to the Stratford Festival Health & Safety Commitment and Procedures and ensure that safe work practices and policies are supported and enforced within reporting structure.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma program, typically a two year program, or equivalent, (i.e. Community college, Technical Institute or Trade School, etc.) in pastry arts
- 1 to 2 years of related experience in a supervisory role
- Valid Drivers license is required
- Previous supervisory experience is an asset
- Experience working in a fast-paced food service environment
- Safe Food Handlers Certification
- Flexible availability to work a variety of operating hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Proficiency in English: verbal and written communication
- Preference will be given to candidates with a culinary based education and/or previous work experience in the areas of baking and pastry work.
