The Café:
Christine’s Café powered by CAA is a welcoming food and beverage space located within Abilities Centre. The Café serves members, participants, staff, and the community by offering a variety of baked goods and beverage options in an inclusive and accessible environment. The Café is designed to model inclusive employment practices and create meaningful opportunities for individuals of all abilities.
The Position:
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Hospitality and Service, the Café Supervisor will support the daily operations of Christine's Café powered by CAA at Abilities Centre. This role will provide on-shift leadership, support team members, and ensure a high quality, inclusive food and beverage experience for members, participants, and guests.
What You’ll Do:
- Operations and Service Support You will act as the on-shift leader, serving as the primary point of contact for café staff during your scheduled hours.
- You will oversee shift opening and closing procedures, including cash reconciliation, equipment start-up/shutdown, and ensuring the café is prepared for service.
- You will support team members including managing workflow, resolving service bottlenecks, and assisting with food and beverage preparation.
- You will respond to equipment issues, staffing shortages, or service challenges during your shift and escalate concerns to the Assistant Director when required.
- You will ensure compliance with all food safety standards and regulations, workplace health and safety legislation, and internal policies.
- You will ensure food safety logs, temperature records, and cleaning schedules are properly completed and maintained.
- You will assist in managing the money handling procedures and cash balancing by ensuring staff are trained on the point-of-sale system (POS).
- You will support inventory management, including monitoring stock levels, rotating product, and communicating ordering needs to the Assistant Director.
- You will address routine customer concerns when possible and escalate complex issues to the Assistant Director as needed.
- Supervision and Personnel Development.You will assist the Assistant Director with scheduling adjustments, break coverage, and communicate any absenteeism or lateness concerns to the Assistant Director.
- You will support onboarding and training of new café team members in customer service, food safety, and operational procedures.
- You will support a high-performing customer service culture with emphasis on achieving results in a collaborative environment.
What You’ll Bring:
- Education and Experience. You have a minimum of one year experience in customer service within a café, restaurant, hospitality, or retail environment.
- You have a minimum of one year of supervisory and/or leadership experience.
- You are knowledgeable about food safety standards, sanitation, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- You have experience handling cash, using point-of-sale systems, and balancing daily transactions.
- Leadership and Communication. You have outstanding verbal and written communication skills and are comfortable conversing with people from diverse backgrounds.
- You can make connections with peers, leaders, and stakeholders, and can work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
- You can facilitate decision-making, collaborate across teams, and achieve results through teamwork, effective negotiation, and problem-solving.

- Administrative Requirements. It is required that you have a current and clear criminal record check for the vulnerable sector to work at Abilities Centre.
- It is required that you have First AID and CPR C/AED.
- It is required that you have Food Handler Certification.
- Availability. You are required to have flexible availability to work a variety of shifts, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
