The Position:
Reporting to the Director, Partnerships and Revenue, the Assistant Director, Business Operations will support the Revenue Development Department in achieving its financial goals for Abilities Centre to reach its potential. The primary responsibility of the Assistant Director is to take a leadership role in the optimization of member acquisition initiatives, primarily designed to support the Centre’s identified revenue objectives and customer service requirements.
This person will lead a critical sales initiative, assuming a leadership position to direct and motivate team members to increase revenue and provide a best-in-class customer experience. The individual will be entrepreneurial and passionate about selling a sports and recreational experience with a truly differentiated competitive advantage, and the Centre’s mission as its guide. As a result, this role will develop and implement sales strategies for new member prospects as well as existing customers, designed to deliver new business opportunities.
What You’ll Do:
Sales and Staff Development.
- You will focus on generating new Membership sales (Business, Group, Personal).
- You will develop effective sales strategies and campaigns that help achieve targets and objectives.
- You will lead the team in actively pursuing sales opportunities through creative sales techniques and generating net new prospects.
- You will assist in developing strategic product, benefits, and pricing plans.
- You will implement and maintain a plan for use of sales software; creating a strategy to manage sales pipelines, produce regular sales and forecasting reports and updates on sales campaigns.
- You will develop and utilize sophisticated training programs and performance management systems.
- You will develop a high-performing sales culture with emphasis on achieving results in a team first, collaborative environment.
- You will create and sustain reporting metrics that create accountability and benchmarks for sales representatives to succeed.
- You will serve as the project manager for all major external events (i.e. Accessibility Awards, Holiday Market, etc.).
- You will collaborate with Membership, Rentals/Events, and Fitness departments to optimize lead qualification, effective target-setting, and pricing strategies.
- You will provide leadership, coaching, and expertise to staff in the areas of partnerships, sales, strategy and program development, budgeting, and staffing.
- You will conduct performance reviews and support staff in identifying and pursuing professional development, and you will support the department leads in the recruitment, training, and management of employees, placements students, and volunteers.
Strategy and Operations.
- You will represent Abilities Centre in business community networks and collaboration initiatives.
- You will develop and implement an effective outreach strategy to create and enhance relationships with community partners, funders, and likeminded organizations.
- You will work collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team and department leads to develop, review, revise, and operationalize annual plans.
- You will coordinate with the Research department to identify and establish needs of communities and gaps in programs and services, and you will work with department leads to implement programs based on the identified gaps.
- You will support the identification and development of appropriate policies and procedures.
What You’ll Bring:
Education and Experience:
- You have a post-secondary Diploma/Degree in Business Management, Sales & Marketing, or equivalent.
- You have a minimum of 3+ years’ experience selling or within a sales environment.
- You have a minimum of 3+ years’ experience within a large fitness, sports and/or recreational facility preferred.
Business Acumen and Technology:
- You can develop a strong strategic plan of action and can manage towards those identified targets (sales, number of members, sales revenue).
- You have a network of local businesses, potential partners, and community groups.
- You have strong sales and marketing skills.
- You exhibit knowledge of accessibility and accommodation issues.
- You have a working knowledge of online recreation management and/or sales software (for example, Legend, MindBody, Active Net, Sales Force, etc.), as well as a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of services.
Communication and Collaboration:
- You have outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including presentation ability.
- You can work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and can achieve results through adaptability and creative problem-solving.
