DHL Express currently has an opening for an Operations Supervisor (Sunday 11:00-21:00, Tuesday to Thursday 06:00-16:00)in our facility in Mount Hope, ON. The Operations Supervisor provides “hands-on” proactive management of the employees engaged in the daily export, clearance and transit of packages and freight, within prescribed standards of cost, efficiency,accuracyand on-time distribution. The supervisor implements new procedures to improve operational effectiveness and provides performance reports for management asrequired. Responsible for activities related totimely, safe loading and dispatch of DHL Aircraft in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
How will you contribute to the success of DHL?
- Recruits, orients, trains, schedules,managesand recommends discipline for all operations staff.
- Establishes/implements productivity,qualityand cost measurements & strategies to achieve desired operational results.
- Ensurestimelyandaccuratedistribution of inbound and/or outgoing freight daily,in accordance withestablished standards and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with Regulatory bodies and regulations related toground transportation of goods and loading and dispatchingtrailers and trucks.
- Ensures Load planning and security of all equipment andvehicles used.
- Ensures Staff permits andgroundoperation audits area up to date.
- Completesaccurateandtimelyreports for management asrequired(staff schedules, attendance records, recruitment/ payroll documentation, dangerous goods incidents, WSIB reports, load quality, arrival/departure).
- Supervise and coordinate the unloading of inbound shipments from trucks, containers, andaircraft.
- Ensure proper handling and sorting of packages tomaintainaccuracy and prevent damage.
- Monitor and manage the performance of unloading teams to meet operational targets and deadlines.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment during unloading activities.
- Ensures successful implementation & continued application of scanning technology.
- Appliesappropriate leadership/managementstyle with open communication (i.e., communicates Corporate strategic plan, recognition of individual/team contributions) to motivate staff.
- Ensures sufficient staff resources,materialsand supplies on handat all times.
- Ensures warehouse is organized and set up for next shift.
- Maintains equipment, in safe, efficient operating conditionat all times.
- Establishes/maintainsa proactive safety program in compliance with legislative requirements and the collective agreement.
- Implements & follows up on Customer Service solutions asdeterminedby Sales resource team.
- Addresses Customer complaints and escalated items in a professional, expedient manner
- Performs other assignments (i.e.,assistsGateway Manager) asrequired.
Do you have what it takes?
- Experience working with Canada customs.
- Experience managing operations with components ofground transportationregulations.
- 3 years’ warehouse/on road operations experience in courier industry.
- Knowledge & compliance with Dangerous Goods
- Prior working experience with lean / process improvement initiatives.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proven communication skills - written &oral
- Working knowledge/interpretation of Collective Agreements & Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Demonstrated drive, initiative & flexibility to ensure task completion.
- Demonstrated time management & organization skills.
- College or University designation.
- Overnight availability.
