Residential Support Worker

Autism Resource Centre • Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada • 4h ago

The Autism Resource Centre is a non-profit organization that aims to meet the evolving needs of the autism community. We are hiring Casual Residential Support Workers. The Support Worker provides relationship-based, autism-informed and person-centered coaching to autistic adults. Working alongside our current two residents, the employee helps build practical skills, confidence, self-determination and community connections so each person can live as independently as possible. The role also supports a safe, respectful and well-managed home and responds appropriately to health, medication, emotional and emergency needs.

This is a casual position which helps ensure our operations continue to run 24 hours a day. Shifts vary from 3 to 12 hours in length, and availability during various shifts including evenings, nights, and weekends is an asset. When applying, you must indicate:

• the average number of hours you are available to work each week

• the hours you are available to be scheduled from Monday to Sunday

Responsibilities

• Relationship and rights: Build respectful and dependable relationships; use each resident's preferred communication, routines and sensory supports.

• Person-centered planning: Translate resident goals into practical coaching steps; follow approved support and safety plans; adapt support based on progress and resident feedback.

• Independent living: Support residents in hygiene, grooming, meals, shopping, cleaning, laundry, home organization, scheduling, transportation, appointments, budgeting and tenancy responsibilities.

• Executive functioning and self-advocacy: Teach planning, organization, task initiation, sequencing, time management and problem-solving using accessible tools. Help residents understand options, communicate preferences, set boundaries and make informed decisions.

• Health, wellness and medication: Promote healthy routines and support access to health services. Assist with or administer medication as trained and authorized, following all documentation and procedures.

• Emotional regulation and crisis response: Help residents identify stressors and coping strategies. Use proactive, trauma-aware and least-restrictive approaches. Follow approved plans and emergency procedures, seek help promptly and participate in post-incident review.

• Community, employment and learning: Support resident-chosen employment, education, volunteering, recreation, relationships and community participation. Help address practical, sensory, communication and social barriers and provide authorized transportation when available.

• Residential operations and safety: Help maintain a clean, secure and welcoming home with as much resident participation as possible. Complete checks; report hazards, maintenance or security concerns; safeguard property; and report suspected abuse, neglect or rights violations.

• Documentation and outcomes: Complete daily factual and respectful notes and records. Document participation, choices, skills, type and amount of support, barriers, progress and next steps—not only activities completed. Protect all confidential information.

• Teamwork and accountability: Provide effective handovers; collaborate with ARC staff; attend meetings, supervision and training; maintain certifications; follow ARC policies and schedules; use feedback; and perform other duties consistent with the role.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience; related post-secondary education is preferred.

• Experience supporting autistic people, people experiencing disability, or adults requiring coaching in independent living, mental wellness or community participation.

• Knowledge of person-centered and strengths-based practice; understanding of autism, sensory processing, executive functioning, communication differences and emotional regulation is preferred.

• Strong communication, observation, problem-solving, interpersonal and basic computer skills, including accurate electronic documentation.

• A vehicle and valid license is required for this position. Third party liability insurance and submission of a driver’s abstract must be submitted. Staff will be reimbursed at a rate of $0.55/km for mileage.

• Satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector checks.

• Current Standard First Aid and CPR, or ability to obtain these within ARC's required timeframe.

• Ability to complete ARC orientation and mandatory training and maintain required certifications.

To apply, send your resume, cover letter and availability to Rilynn Epp (rilynn@autismresourcecentre.com) on or before November 1, 2026.

Our thanks is extended to all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
