Supervisor Surveillance Public Health
Health Services – Public Health
Status: 1 Contract Full Time (13 Months – Mat Leave Coverage)
Salary Range: $105,754.00 – $132,193.00 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits, where applicable)
Hiring Range: $105,754.00 – $118,974.00 per annum

Peel Public Health works to protect and promote the health of residents and reduce the risk of illness across the community. Public Health supports people in Peel to live their healthiest possible lives and to actively contribute to their communities through programs that are dynamic, inclusive, and grounded in equity. Core public health functions include assessment and surveillance, health promotion and healthy public policy development, health protection, disease prevention, and emergency management.
The Public Health Intelligence division plays a central role in monitoring and reporting on population health issues, identifying health disparities and emerging threats, and conducting research. The division advances applied science and evidence-informed public health practice across the health department to support effective decision-making and continuous improvement.
In this role you will Supervise a team of Data Coordinators and Health Analysts. The team supports the Public Health mandate to prevent and control communicable diseases in Peel in accordance with the applicable legislative authorities, including the Health Protection and Promotion Act and the Ministry of Health’s Ontario Public Health Standards.
What You'll Do:
- Recruit, coach, motivate and evaluate employees while ensuring efficient utilization of resources
- Plan, implement and evaluate strategies to ensure quality service delivery in the areas of surveillance and database management
- Coordinate activities to support the effective and efficient use of information systems (e.g., iPHIS and Panorama)
- Oversee the timely analysis of health data in order to support communicable disease surveillance, immunization and vaccine programming, and to monitor the health status of Peel’s residents
- Oversee support to program areas in data extractions, data cleaning, data reporting and maintenance of data standards according to the latest Ministry guidance
- Implement and evaluate Public Health programs mandated under the Ontario Public Health Standards by the Ministry of Health (MOH) related to the Infectious Diseases and Foundational Standards
- Support and implement team, divisional, departmental, and corporate initiatives and priorities
- Assist the Manager in preparing and monitoring the team budget, work plans, developing and monitoring performance targets, and other operational objectives in order to meet departmental requirements
- Liaise with other public health jurisdictions, physicians, other health care providers and community agencies throughout the region and province. Political awareness, tact and diplomacy are essential
- Participate in departmental, regional and provincial committees, as required
What The Role Requires:
- A Baccalaureate Degree in Health Sciences or equivalent combined with minimum of three years experience in Public Health
- 3 years of Supervisory experience
- Expert knowledge of analytical, statistical and epidemiological methods normally acquired by an MSc, MHSc or MPH in epidemiology or equivalent
- Ability to synthesize, evaluate and integrate health/epidemiological information from multiple sources and to provide recommendations for policy formulation/dissemination
- Knowledge and understanding of public health and community health issues
- Combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong problem solving and use of evidence are vital for program decisions
- Polished organization skills with ability to facilitate, help manage projects and manage time effectively
- Analytical skills to monitor, analyze and interpret program data
- Excellent computer skills including knowledge and experience in the use of computer software for statistical analyses (e.g., SPSS, SAS, STATA, Epi-Info, Access, Excel, Powerpoint) and Ministry databases (e.g., iPHIS/Cognos, Panorama/PEAR)
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential in order for you to communicate effectively with your direct reports, the Management team, other Departmental staff and external partners; written reports must be technical, factual and statistically sound
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to situations that require urgent responses (e.g., disease outbreaks)
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Work Mode & Job Location:
In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.
It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario.
