Position Summary
Chrysalis is a registered non-profit organization that offers personalized services designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities while providing meaningful opportunities for growth and community inclusion.
Reporting to the Programs and Services Coordinator and Program Team Lead, the Kinesiology/Recreation Therapy Student will support our Programs and Services teams by developing and implementing purposeful and effective recreational programs that meet the needs and goals of people accessing service at Chrysalis. This role works closely in collaboration with our multi-disciplinary team to better assess the abilities and needs of the individuals
we serve. The Kinesiology/Recreation Therapy Student completes assessments of current programs and services and provides recommendations on ways to enhance quality of life through recreation.
Role and Responsibilities
- Program Implementation and Assessment
- Assess the needs of Participants by using observation, medical records, tests, and discussions with other healthcare professionals
- Update fitness plans and develop programs that meet the needs, abilities, and interests, people accessing service
- Plan and implement interventions to support Participants to meet their goals
- Engage Particiapnts in therapeutic/recreational activities, such as exercise, games, and community outings
- Document and analyze the progress of Participants and modify programming as necessary
- Liaise with other team members and health care professionals to plan and evaluate therapy programs
- Initiate the review process for all programming and evaluate interventions for effectiveness using a recreational therapy lens
Team Support and Training
● Work effectively in a team-oriented environment
● Provide training to staff on implementing recreational therapy in programming
● Communicate recreational therapy approaches to staff in an instructive format by preparing educational materials and presentations
● Facilitate training to staff on purpose, rationale, goals, outcomes, and evaluation of recreational programs
● Stay up to date on innovative recreational therapy approaches and implement new approaches in programming

Qualifications and Requirements
● Working with adults with disabilities or similar specialized field may be an asset
● Enrolled in a diploma or equivalent post-secondary education in recreational therapy, kinesiology, or a similar field is required
● Strong assessment and problem-solving skills are required
● Strong facilitation skills
● Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams
● Strong effective written and oral communication skills
● Effective time management and priority-setting skills, and the ability to balance competing demands/priorities and deal with competing opinions
● Valid First Aid and CPR certification or willing to get
● Current Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search
● Must have own vehicle and hold a valid driver’s license
