Title: Social Club Program Facilitator

Employment Status: Part-Time, Seasonal

The Manitoba Down Syndrome Society (MDSS) is a non-profit organization that provides support, information and opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome, parents, professionals and other interested persons.

MDSS Social Club provides fun, inclusive, and parent-free social programming for young adults with Down syndrome in our community. Meeting twice monthly from September through June, our Social Club facilitates meaningful friendships, fosters social connectedness, and supports the development of interpersonal skills in a welcoming and celebrated environment.

Job Description

The MDSS is seeking enthusiastic Program Facilitators for our 2026-2027 Social Club. This is a paid opportunity to gain valuable experience working with individuals with disabilities while leading engaging, creative programming in a supportive environment. The Social Club runs from September through June, typically meeting two Saturdays (or occasionally Fridays) per month.

Shifts are from approximately 6:15 pm to 9:45 pm, with compensation of $70 per shift ($20/hr).

Responsibilities:

Program Support:

• Collaborate with the Program Coordinators and MDSS board member to implement engaging recreational activities.

• Assist in planning and leading both on-site activities and outings.

• Maintain accurate records of program activities.

• Participate in program evaluation and contribute feedback.

Participant Support:

• Supervise participants during all activities, ensuring safety and enjoyment.

• Address any issues that arise with professionalism and care.

• Maintain participant confidentiality and dignity.

• Provide support as needed, including assistance with hygiene or other tasks.

Qualifications:

• 18 years of age or older

• Reliable and committed to working with individuals with disabilities

• Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn

• Experience in organizing recreational activities

• Ability to supervise a group of approximately 20 young adults

• Strong problem-solving skills

• Effective communication in English

• Must be willing to have fun!

Additional Requirements:

• Successful candidates will need to complete a Criminal Record Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check.

• Experience with AAC is considered an asset.
