What qualifications are we looking for?
At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
· A Bachelor of Education, Physical Education or a related degree or diploma is an asset
· A minimum of two years’ experience working with youth
· Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) or Challenges Unlimited (CUI) Level 1or higher is an asset
· Experience with day camps, supervising staff, and program development
· Minimum two years’ experience in coaching and sport program delivery, and one-year supervisory experience
· Excellent customer service attitude
· Availability in the evenings and weekends to meet community and branch needs
· Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certifications
· Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
· Three professional references
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
The Day Camp & Climbing Supervisor will achieve the goals and objectives of the position by demonstrating the core competencies of the organization. The core priorities are direct program delivery, health and safety, and staff and volunteer development and capacity building.
The Day Camp & Climbing Supervisor is responsible for?operational excellence within the department?and the branch.
As part of a Health, Fitness, and Aquatics Branch (HFA) this position will also be responsible for Duty Manager shifts on a regular basis.Ensuring the maintenance of the branch and coordinating health and safety responses in event of an emergency.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
· Lead the team of staff & volunteers working for Day Camps and Climbing?including hiring, training,?performance management?and?active coaching and mentoring of staff and volunteers, including providing feedback on a regular basis?
· Adhere to policies & procedures that support?high standards?for Health & Safety and Child Safety & Protection.??
· Build relationships with families, participants,?volunteers?and staff?
· Have a high degree of organizational and administrative skill to ensure Association procedures?are adhered to as set by YMCA Calgary?
· Volunteer recruitment (volunteer fairs, interview,?train?and performance manage)?
· Provide leadership for summer and seasonal Day Camps including Summer, Winter Break, Teacher’s Convention and Spring Break.?
· Play an active role by attending Daycamp and Climbing work groups by regularly scheduled meetings and in-services.?
· Develop,?control?and evaluate the Daycamp and Climbing budget for your branch,?related statistics, and purchase equipment as?required, manage expenses and report variances.
· Ensure all administration systems are in place and are adhered to as set by YMCA Calgary.?
· Collaborate with the Bookings Team to plan, organize and?facilitate?group bookings including school groups and birthday parties.
· Take initiative to support program cycles for? Day Camps & Climbing including registration, program cancellations and wait list management.?
· Provide branch?support?assuming weekly Duty Manager Shifts and engage Healthy Safety Training and Duty Manager In-Services.?Assist?with?branch?duties (including scheduled duty manager shifts, day camps, registration days,?etc)?
· Assist?with the annual YMCA campaign by developing relationships with program participants to raise their campaign awareness?
· Market and promote programs?
· Be responsible for?ensuring your staff and volunteers receive department?and Association?specific training?
· Effectively communicate in a variety of settings; excellent oral and written communication skills, including intermediate use of technology?
· Ensure excellent quality member service by?identifying?the needs and wants of participants as priority and respond to their concerns in an effective and?timely?manner?
· Facilitate leadership programs for staff and volunteers?
· Attend branch and department?special events?(Healthy Kids Day, Basketball tournaments, All Sport One Day, in-services, Stampede Breakfast, volunteer appreciation?etc)
