Who we are: The Transportation Operations team at the Region of Peel is responsible for managing and improving traffic flow, safety, and transportation infrastructure within Peel Region. Our work supports safe and efficient travel for all road users through activities such as traffic signal management, sign and pavement markings, road safety initiatives, implementation of traffic calming measures, and the coordination of construction projects to minimize their impact on the transportation network.
The Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Technical Assistant to join our Traffic Operations & Safety team. Reporting to the Traffic Operations & Safety Supervisor, you will play a key role in supporting road safety initiatives by analyzing collision data and providing essential technical and administrative support to staff and stakeholders to enhance our road safety initiatives.
What you will do in this Role:
- Provide technical and administrative support to the Supervisor and Technical Analysts by compiling data and information for studies, reports, and annual programs
- Participate in Road Safety Audits by conducting traffic studies, historical data reviews, and field inventories
- Analyze collision and traffic data manually and using the Traffic Engineering Software (TES) application
- Input, update and maintain the collision records within the collision database
- Maintain the TES database, including updates to the road network and related revisions
- Prepare and process internal and external requests for collision and statistical information
- Provide technical advice and guidance to internal stakeholders
- Manage the regular downloading of collision reports from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), including quality control to ensure data completeness and accuracy
- Liase with Peel Regional Police and Ontario Provincial Police regarding collision data as required
- Lead the administration of the MTO Authorized Requester Information System (ARIS) e-Collision program, including routine download and contract administrative requirements
- Assist with the processing of road permits including road occupancy, excess load, and road closure permits
- Perform other duties as assigned
What the Role requires:
- Completed post-secondary education in Transportation Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with one (1) year minimum of relevant industry related experience
- Familiarity with the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and other relevant legislation, standards and technical guidelines, including, but not limited to, Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Geometric Design Guide, Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM), and Highway Safety Manual (HSM)
- Excellent computer skills and thorough knowledge/experience with the TES application is considered an asset
- Knowledge of road occupancy permits, excess load permits and road closure permits is considered an asset
Skills/Abilities:
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear emails, reports, and technical documentation
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage and analyze, large volumes of collision data accurately
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong public relations skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.
It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
