The Opportunity: Support Worker

Position Summary
Resilient Hearts is seeking a compassionate and reliable Support Worker for its Engage Program to provide individualized respite and community access support to individuals with disabilities. The Support Worker will work directly with participants in their homes and in the community, supporting independence, meaningful participation, social connection, and the development of daily living skills. The ideal candidate is patient, respectful, dependable, and committed to providing person-centred, strengths-based, and inclusive support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one respite and community support to participants.
- Support daily living, life skills, and community participation.
- Follow individualized participant goals and support plans.
- Promote independence, choice, confidence, and meaningful engagement.
- Assist participants with recreational, social, and community activities.
- Communicate effectively with participants, families, and the Engage Coordinator.
- Maintain accurate attendance and participant documentation.
- Report participant needs, concerns, progress, and incidents as required.
- Follow safety, confidentiality, and organizational policies.
- Use person-centred, strength-based, and trauma-informed approaches.
- Participate in required training and team meetings.
- Perform other participant-support duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an easy-going and patient male support person to provide approximately 10 hours of community-based support. The individual may become fixated on certain people or thoughts and may repeat questions or display challenging behaviours at times. The primary goal is to provide calm communication, help him understand safety concerns, and support him in reducing these behaviours. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience supporting individuals with autism and behaviour-related needs, with a focus on building trust, communication, safety, and positive interactions.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting individuals with disabilities is an asset.
- Relevant education in Disability Studies, Social Work, Human Services, Child and Youth Care, or a related field is an asset.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification is required.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence and Third-party liability insurance may be required, depending on participant support needs.
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check, or ability to obtain.
- Willingness to complete the required organizational training.
