Hours of work: 35 hours per week
Who we are: The Business & Financial Planning Business Units provide key strategic and operational financial services to all departments within the Region of Peel and ensure the successful fulfillment of the following key financial objectives: annual budget preparation, regular financial reporting, financial benchmarking, development of medium and long term financial plans, compliance with Financial Management By-Law, and year end audit requirements. The Business Units support Health Services, Human Services, Corporate Services and Public Works.

We’re looking for a dynamic, people-focused leader to take the reins on financial planning and analysis for key areas in Public Works—including Water & Wastewater, Operations Support, and Development Services.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As the Financial Lead for Public Works, you’ll be the go-to expert for everything from budget development to financial strategy. You’ll:
- Drive the development and coordination of both operating and capital budgets
- Guide teams and programs on how to align financial planning with council goals
- Provide strategic financial insights to keep projects on track and funds well-managed
- Collaborate with teams to build smarter, more sustainable communities
And let’s not forget—you’ll lead a talented team of 4, helping them grow through coaching, mentorship, and encouragement in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

What do we require?
- A university degree or college diploma, and attainment of a recognized professional accounting designation (CA/CGA/CMA/ACCA)
- 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in municipal finance is preferred
- Previous experience supervising and leading a team
- Proven track record of mentoring staff and providing guidance for their independent work
- Combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills/Abilities:
- Solid understanding of municipal finance and budgeting
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles and public sector accounting standards
- Excellent organizational skills and an ability to deal with conflicting demands and changing priorities
- Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data clearly and effectively to program leadership
- Well developed customer service skills and have the ability to support the divisional management teams
- Excellent skills in financial analysis, strategic thinking, and complex problem solving
- computer skills, including experience using financial spreadsheet software
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.
