Who we are:
The Transportation Operations team at Peel Region is responsible for managing and improving traffic flow, safety, and transportation infrastructure within Peel Region. Our team focuses on a broad range of activities including traffic signal management, signage, road safety, implementation of traffic calming measures, and the coordination of construction projects to minimize their impact on traffic.
The role:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Traffic Engineering, the Technical Analyst is responsible for addressing and analyzing traffic engineering related concerns and requests, including but not limited to signage, pavement markings, traffic control devices and by-law related requests (speed limits, truck restrictions and prohibitions, turning restrictions etc.).
What you’ll do:
- Conduct a variety of traffic related studies; analyze data manually or through computer applications.
- Respond either verbally or in writing to enquiries from Council and from the public relating to traffic operation matters.
- Liaise with local and regional staff, the public, lawyers, enforcement authorities, contractors, consulting firms and politicians.
- Observe the operation of traffic and traffic control devices and recommend changes in pavement marking, traffic control, signage etc. based on observations.
- Monitor, analyze and review traffic count data.
- Assist in Regional Education and Outreach programs.
- Review and provide comment on consultant engineering submissions.
- Identify intersections which are to be included in the Capital Works Traffic Signal Program.
- Determine requirements for traffic and pedestrian control, signal phasing and timing.
- Review functional plans to ensure necessary geometrics, signing and pavement marking requirements are met for capital projects.
- Provide Traffic Engineering input into the E.A process, Master Plans and other planning initiatives.
- Identify intersections which are to be included in the capital construction program.
- Determine necessary lane configurations to improve overall traffic operations.
- Co-ordinate traffic comments for Capital Projects and Planning projects.
- Prepare the manual count and radar study programs, analyze data and recommend improvements.
- Prepare specialized construction sign and detour layouts as required and recommend necessary revisions in the field.
- Provide guidance and assistance to students.
- Review posted speed limits, truck prohibitions.
- Recommend the purchasing of new or updated equipment for the use of traffic studies.
- Conduct research to improve processes and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What we require:
- Successful completion of a degree or diploma in Transportation/Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
- Relevant and progressive experience related to the management of a road system. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
- Background in urban and regional planning would be an asset.
- Demonstrated skills in project management and traffic development.
- Excellent communicator via written work and presentations.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the HTA and other relevant legislation, Planning Act, ITE, OPSD, TAC, OTM, HCM, and other related design and engineering standards and manuals.
- Experience using Synchro, Arcady, MS Office and TES Software.
- Understanding of the EA process.
- Sound knowledge of design standards, related codes, regulations, tendering/contract process and contract administration.
- A skill set that includes negotiating, planning, public relations and problem solving.
- Detailed knowledge of computerized traffic engineering applications and methodologies.
- Must have a valid G driver’s license (in good standing) and access to own transportation.

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.
It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
