The Calgary West Central Primary Care Network (CWC PCN) is a non-profit organization committed to a healthier future. As a Primary Care Network, we work alongside hundreds of family doctors (our members) to support the patient-doctor relationship and provide programs and services at no cost to doctor or patient.
As the Communications Advisor, you’ll be responsible for supporting both new and existing initiatives by creating program- and project-specific strategic communications plans and executing tactics that support the CWC PCN’s communications objectives. You’ll proactively develop and implement clear, consistent, and engaging communications that reflect and enhance the CWC PCN's commitment to effective stakeholder communication. You will work closely with other Communications team members and key stakeholders to develop, deliver, and implement projects.
This is a primarily work-from-home position with some required in-person work at our Main Office, located at 5966 Centre St. S.E., Calgary. Therefore, the successful candidate must be located within Calgary or the surrounding area (e.g., Cochrane, Airdrie, Chestermere, etc.).
This is a temporary maternity leave contract. The expected contract dates are June 1st, 2026 - July 10th, 2027.
Responsibilities
Strategic communications planning
- Develop solutions to help solve problems for internal stakeholders by offering strategic counsel and actionable insights.
- Write comprehensive strategic communications plans with measurable objectives.
- Ensure communications are audience-appropriate by using personas, testing key messages and concepts, and analyzing metrics.
- Collaborate to build and maintain an annual editorial calendar to identify and schedule external and internal communication initiatives.
- Research the communications landscape, including our partners, government, and similar organizations within the healthcare industry, to inform strategic plans.
- Coordinate creative projects with internal and external stakeholders to ensure collateral is on-brand and completed on time and within budget.
- Provide ongoing reports and feedback for continuous improvement and optimization.
- Read and evaluate Google Analytics reports, prioritizing focus areas.
- Support crisis communications activities.
Content development, writing and editing
- Lead the development of the monthly public-facing newsletter.
- Ensure writing tone and style are on-brand.
- Demonstrate a professional-level of writing, ensuring strong spelling and grammar and that work products are error-free.
- Operate as an editor and publisher of content in collaboration with the team; peer edit documents and other written materials in compliance with Canadian Press style.
- Proofread and edit all materials before publication to ensure accuracy and consistency with the CWC PCN’s brand and style guidelines.
- Write compelling headlines, long- and short-form content, including stories, reports, image captions, and storyboards for videos and podcasts, ensuring alignment with brand voice, tone, and style.
Website management
- Maintain and update website and intranet content as needed.
- Monitor website performance and functionality daily.
- Collaborate to track and renew domains, hosting, security certificates, and maintenance contracts.
- Act as main contact for the CWC PCN’s website development/management vendor.
- Work with website development/management vendor to address any website issues.
- Assist with developing and designing WordPress sites as needed.
Education: A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field is required.
Experience: A minimum of three years’ experience in the communications profession is required. A minimum of one year of experience in website management and website design/development is required.
A minimum of three years’ experience in the following is an asset:
- Experience in client management and collaborative projects.
- Experience with primary care, healthcare research, and knowledge of the Alberta healthcare system.
- Experience writing and editing according to Canadian Press style standards.
Certifications: Membership with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is considered an asset.
Technical: Proficiency in the following programs:
- Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Dashboards.
- Content management systems.
- Digital communications software including websites (e.g. WordPress).
- Analytics and reporting tools.
Background check: A clear Criminal Background check is required to start.
